Pilots Pay...
I FLY AIRPLANES... Yet I can't afford the mortgage!!
In just a few decades pilots went from superstars to expendable... I wanted to be an airline pilot most of my life, now I'm not sure I'll ever take that route. All these airlines companies have to deal with the public wanting CHEAP airline tickets and that ultimetly affects the workers. I have friends in the flight attendant industry and its happened to them to.
So I think I'll be sticking with the corporate life which hasn't been too bad for me except for the fact I'm still flying a single engine airplane. I've been flying a little Cessna 206 for about 5 years. The best thing I'd say about flying for a good corporate flight department is flying newer equipment! The oldest plane I've flown is just 4 years old. The best of the best.
The problem:
I've wanted to fly big airplanes my whole life. If I go that route I'll lose half my salary. If I wait I might miss my oppourtunity. I hear fractionals are the way to go but I'll still take a nice paycut... What do you do? Go for the dream and possibly go into debt or continue with a job you like but don't love. Will I always be chasing a dream that will never happen? Anyone taken the chance?
I'm sure most of you had to take the cut in order to live out your dream. I'm at a crossroad and do love my job but I hope I won't always wonder, "What if..." Sometimes you just have to hold on and see what the future has in store for you. I'm willing to do just that.
